In developing SSSW, our guiding principle is “No Feature Withholding.” All essential features required for subscription sales—such as recurring billing schedule management, a unique gateway that stores upcoming payment information even with zero-amount transactions, and automatic emails for every scenario—are fully included in the free version as well. And of course, both the Free and PRO versions fully support Blocks and Classic.

“Custom Freedom = Overdoing It”
If the traditional plugin distribution model is the conventional approach of “a limited free version with new features unlocked only in the paid version,” then SSSW takes the opposite path: “the free version comes fully equipped with all features, but the control is left to the user.” It is easier to restrict than to add new functions, and we chose to preserve the true essence of WordPress: the joy of “customizing it any way you like.” That said, we cannot deny that this “all-unlocked” approach can make the free version somewhat less user-friendly at times.

Users with a certain level of skill can probably write small custom codes to control individual features. However, achieving advanced control over multiple features without conflicts can be quite difficult. That is why PRO is designed for users who cannot solve this problem on their own — you can think of it as “a utility package that provides comprehensive control.” For advanced users, PRO is of absolutely no value other than saving the time cost of writing custom code, so please feel free to make full use of the Free version.

Since we do not withhold features even in the Free version, there are no brand-new functions in PRO specifically for subscription sales. However, calling it merely “a utility package” would sound a bit plain, so we decided to expand what can be sold via subscriptions: “Content.” With PRO, you can sell content access through subscriptions, functioning as a simple membership system. In the future, we plan to support “Sensei Pro + WooCommerce” (SSSW PRO licensed users will receive free updates), or, by combining it with our paid product “Bonsai,” you will also be able to sell online courses using “Sensei LMS (free version) + WooCommerce” under a subscription model.
